Google I/O is this week!  Thank you for registering for the Google I/O Extended Santa Barbara event hosted by Citrix -- we have a great event planned and are looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

In addition to streaming the Google I/O keynote and sessions throughout the day on Wednesday and Thursday, our engineers will hold Dev Chats on various software development topics. There will be raffles on the first two days, and we have an Ice Cream Social planned for Thursday as well.  For you World Cup fans, we'll be showing the USA/Germany game Thursday morning from 9am-10:30am on the patio.

You can review the event schedule on the Eventbrite page.

Hackers!  We finally have details on the hackathon:

Not sure yet if you want to hack? No problem! We'll be discussing the hackathon further at dinner on Wednesday (6pm-7pm); we'll share some ideas if you're still hunting for a project, and will help form teams if you'd like to participate!

FAQ:

WHAT ARE THE PRIZES?
The winning team will receive $1,000, the second-place team will receive $500, and the third-place team will receive $250.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Nothing!

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Anyone with programming skills who is registered for the Google I/O Extended Santa Barbara event (unfortunately we won't have the capacity to teach programming skills at the event).

WHAT CAN WE BUILD?
This is an open hackathon: any idea is allowed (to be eligible for prizes, your project must be submitted by 10am on Friday, and at least one team member must be present to demo your project on Friday from 10:30am-1pm; please see contest rules below for details).

DO I NEED A TEAM?
Nope! You can compete alone, although you're likely to get more done, and thus have a more impressive project, with a larger team. We'll help form teams on Wednesday from 6:00pm-7:30pm if you don't already have a team. Teams can have at most six members total.

CAN I USE PAST PROJECTS OR CODE?
No, all code must be written at the event. Third party APIs and libraries are permitted as long as they are accessible by everyone else as well.

WHO OWNS THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY?
Entrants retain IP ownership of what they build during the contest.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
You'll need to bring your own laptop and any other equipment you'll need to work on your project; we'll provide power, WiFi, and of course food and caffeine. We'll be open until 2am both days in order to accommodate anyone who wants to stay late -- we'll provide late-night snacks both nights as well!

HOW DOES JUDGING WORK?
Our panel of judges will rate each demoed project on Technical Creativity ("wow factor"), and Technical Difficulty.
